Meet the Visionary
Musician, choir director, singer, songwriter, believer, and disciple James Alfred Johnson III was gifted with music ministry at the age of 9. James’s love for gospel music was initially nurtured under the mentorship of Pastor Kenneth Anderson at Mt. Olive Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in San Diego, CA. By junior high school he began learning how to play the bass guitar. Due to his father being in the Navy, James’s family moved to Long Beach, CA. It was there, at age 15, where his musical talent further developed under the mentorship of Lady Gherri Lagree, and Roche McDaniels where he attended Gospel Memorial COGIC. While attending this magnificent church James learned that he had a desire and gifting for directing choirs, and a developing ear manifesting the natural ability to hear vocal harmonic parts in music. From there he catapulted into the fulfilling world of gospel music singing, playing, and praising God.

James Johnson has had the honor of working and singing with many talented greats including Ricky Womack, Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling, and Eddie Baltrip and Fulfillment. He has sung back up for several late greats such as Ricky Womack, Walter Hawkins, and the Rev. James Moore to name a few.
James is most definitely talented and gifted with music. However, his best assets are that he is funny, quick witted, musically engaging, sociable, and a Holy Ghost filled servant of God. He can really get his step and shout on! There is no question he is earnestly devoted to praising God. However, his best traits are humility and loyalty. To be able to call him a friend is a blessing. We thank his parents for allowing him to follow his passion as he continues to touch many hearts. To think hearing his father, James Alfred Johnson Jr., at the age of 7, sparked the gift that continues to give.
James’s idols in gospel music are the late iconic musicians Olanda Draper and Kevin Lemons. James currently resides in Las Vegas, NV. where he is the bassist and choir director at Fresh Wind Ministries, under the discipleship of Apostle Paul Kelker. James is quoted as saying, “Today I am in agreement and honored to move forward to support the vision of “choirs”. So, let’s reestablish whole choirs now! In this chapter, my earnest prayer is that RMF (Repentance in a Moment of Forgiveness) will flourish and influence others to get excited about the choir experience. More importantly, may this extraordinary experience open doors to help musically educate those who desire to have a relationship with God, and lead people to a personal relationship with Jesus salvation.”
Get ready, get set, let’s GO!
